LAUNCH OF VOLUME TWO
Telling it like it was
In 1904 the Dent and Sedbergh
Oral History Society began interviewing more than a hundred men
and women born between 1905 and the 1950s. They had lived through
the pre-war, war-time and post-war years of the twentieth century,
a period of unprecedented change in the Dales when horses made way
for cars and tractors, oil lamps for electricity, magic lanterns
for television. Our interviewees told it as they experienced and
remembered it. We published the first volume of this living
history in 2005 and it became an instant local best-seller. Now
Volume 2 of Telling it like it was completes the picture,
including references to more than five hundred local people,
several pages of photographs and a comprehensive index covering
both volumes. |
